Do you prefer Town or Country life? And why?

I live in the town but would much prefer the country life.... Cleaner air, less pollution, peace and quiet. I might even learn to drive then!

The town has it's advantages though, plenty of shops!

Re: Town or Country life?

I was brought up in the country, and have always lived in the country....I like the freedom, fresh air, country people are lovely, like to wake up in the morning and look across fields, and most of all, my dogs have plenty of freedom, my cats are safe from traffic...Could imagine living in a town...

Re: Town or Country life?

See I think I am at heart a townie. Although I like the country I think I see it through rose tinted specs. I love the convenience of shops on my doorstep (not just supermarket)lights at night, the "security" of neighbours etc.

I think it would be nice to live in the country during the summer but what it would be like in winter is another thing. I remember Moli's photos that she put on here last winter when she was feet in snow!

I that case start packing; I'll be moving in tomorrow.

Re: Town or Country life?

Have always lived in the City except for summer vacations at my grandparents in the country as a child. I agree the fresher air and lack of worry about heavily trafficed roads would be nice, but I find it hard to believe I'd be comfortable in a place without reliable public transportation at my doorstep, not to mention neighbors next door and the ability to walk to almost everything I need (bank, market, library, restaurants, etc), plus knowing the streets will be ploughed after a heavy snow. Guess I'm just a City Mouse at heart

Re: Town or Country life?

Market town (pop about 9,500) in the country for me. Enough people around, but relatively quiet. And, within walking distance - shops, banks, doctors, dentist, cottage hospital, schools, library, pubs, restaurants, market, farmers' market, plus, woods, river, downs, and the coast within 35 minutes drive. Half an hours drive to the rail station for an 85 minute journey to London.
I should shush - you'll all be wanting to move here!
