River Sculpture at Whitcombe Bottom on Harting Down (NT)This is an interesting installation made by Red Earth "River: Harting Down OS map ref: SU797174 A 90m greenwood avenue of coppiced ash and hazel, a flowing river of shadow and light. The sculpture is inspired by the ancient deer hunt, prehistoric interventions in the landscape and the flow of glacial meltwater which formed the valley after the last ice age." http://www.redearth.co.uk/ Unfortunately, as there was no sunshine today, there were no shadows. Perhaps we will have to revisit when the light is better. I particularly like the picture of our Monty Bogle running down the avenue

Think it's better to be there and walk around it and along it ... I felt it had a presence and movement to it. Would have extra with sunlight and shadows. A huge part, for me, is where it is. Thanks Alex - I think Monty added to the whole experience! |

Well I agree with you Angie sometimes it is the place itself and what you find there adds to a feeling that does not always come across in pictures. Where/how are you finding these sculptures?????? |
