Pip has a tick on his neck

Ticks have been a real problem this year and unfortunately Monty has bought them home from his walks. Whilst many we have managed to find and dispose of, I guess some have "escaped" and consequently poor Pip has a horrid one on his neck. His fur is so thick that we have not noticed it before now, and only noticed it tonight because either it is bleeding slightly or Pip has caught it somehow and it has bled. Not a lot of blood and in itself I would not worry about the blood on it's own as it such a little. But I am worried about whether the tick is injured and will be pumping noxins into Pip's bloodstream.

Any advice welcome. I will be phoning the vet in the morning.

You're right to get advice on this Angieh. All I know is if that if the tick's injured and not a clean break off it's host it can leave it's mouth parts in which can turn the site septic. Yes, best to ring your vet in the morning.

I notice I typed "noxins"! I mean toxins of course but was thinking noxious things ........ I am worried about Lyme disease of course.

I didn't know you had Lyme disease there! Horrid disease. Poor Pip, a vet vist probably and maybe some ABs if the head is still there.... And watch that you or OH don't have one in a hard-to-see spot, Lyme is really awful.

We have a vet appointment at 11.30 this morning. The main body of the tick has gone sadly, so I am expecting that Pip will have to have a little op.
