Our narrowboat holiday

We had a great time on our narrowboat - Caleb's first holiday too. We were very unsure as to how her would be, but happy to report that he was perfect and got used to the routine very quickly! He was jumping on and off (at the right times I hasten to add!) in no time. He enjoyed lots of walks and admirers and loved sitting next to his dad on his bed at the tiller.

We had a good time too, very relaxing and definitely left the world behind for a week. Last Thursday we were delighted to hear from our son Adam, who had stayed at home, the fab news that he got 3 A's & a B in his A levels. I felt such a fool as I couldn't stop crying! So he is off to Cardiff next month, his chosen uni, to study Music & English!!

Re: Our narrowboat holiday

Sorry about the picture sizes. I reduced to 75% but still too big. I'll try 50%

Gorgeous pics - Caleb is a lovely young lad!
I have a hankering after the narrowboat/canal thing ... but then I think it could be claustrophobic, especially if the weather is bad.

Oh Kim - well done to Adam on his results; you must be so pleased and proud!!

Glad the holiday and Caleb were both a success. I too kind of hanker after a narrow boat holiday (we nearly bought one to live on back in 1991 when we had no money) but in order to avoid being cooped up in the event of rain, am thinking central France narrow-boating might be nice

Yola, we've twice holidayed on a campsite in Burgundy, very close to the canal. It is just wonderful walking by the side of the canal (so peaceful) and the people on the (few) passing boats look incredibly relaxed. Plus - lots of lovely auberges where you can eat and drink to your stomach (if not heart's) content before staggering home.

Re: Our narrowboat holiday

Yes Yola, I was very pleased and proud of Adam. He needed 2 A's & a B to get into Cardiff, otherwise it would have been his 2nd choice of Leeds. I will really miss him though.... My daughters GCSE results this Thursday....

DM, the boat can definitely be a bit claustrophobic, as much as we loved it, a week at a time is enough! and yes you need dry weather, I didn't mind about the cold, but it is no fun doing locks in the rain and the tiller area had no cover either. However, there are lots of plus points and we came back very 'chilled'!
