I don't think it's cruel either. I find that if Merlin isn't really excited by what he's been given to eat, I have to keep him focussed on his food by stroking him. Luckily, he really likes his current food and eats without prompting. |

Missed this yesterday! I was raised never to touch the cat while he was eating by my mom, but do stroke Leia and say "enjoy!" when I put down her plate. |
