Alex, a lot of that is example! My parents and my aunt who lived with us were all avid readers...it's sort of a "monkey see, monkey do" thing,. don't you think? They were obviously enjoying it, so I wanted to learn to read too! |

I guess it is Eileen. I hadn't thought of it that way before but it makes sense. Whatever the reasons for them reading so well I am just glad that they do. It's one of lifes greatest pleasures for me, when I can read a book and imagine the characters and settings and I'm pleased that the girls get the same enjoyment. Raechel loves the same type of books I had in my childhood, Secret 7, Famous 5, Mallory Towers etc. Oh the memories lol. |

There's nothing quite to beat them is there Mags? The collections she has of the SS and FF are actually my ones that my mum bought me when I was Raechels age. Three of the Mallory Towers ones are, but lost the others lol, but managed to trace them down at boot sales. |

Famous Five . . . I LOVED them! I got through one every 2 days on holiday with my folks one summer - cost my Dad a fortune in new books. They are all in my Mum's attic and I intend to get the boys into the stories as soon as they're able to grasp them. Alex, your girls look great there - it's a joy to see that they love books, if only more children could benefit from that. Still, it's something that is borne out of the family environment, you can't force it from the outside. Dominik, at 4 1/2 is already reading basic books, I love our evening 'homework' where he reads through the book he's been learning at school. He loves it too and is SO proud when he can read it without faltering |

Alex your girls look great! Don't worry I had Myles registered with our library from birth too! But they like the big picture books and they do enjoy even just the sound of your voice as babies and it puts them in good stead! When I was 11 and going up to senior school I remember being told I had the reading ability of a 16 year old and if I wanted to improve futher on that then my parents would have to buy my own books as they had nothing in the school library to challenge my ability! No wonder this same school is getting knocked down next year! I've probably never improved from then on! We weren't the richest of families and I never did get any extra books but there you go! Myles is 5 and is reading the books from the class of 7-8 year olds 2 years above him now. He just clicked and absolutely flew through the books for his age and he does really well on these ones now. Biff, Chip, Kipper and the Magic Key! |

Awww, so glad he is doing so well too. Books cost so much these days, but I get lots of the girls from charity shops for pennies. It's so nice to see them getting that enjoyment out of reading, isn't it? |
