Re: Thomas...and when is the time right

Thankyou CJK..yes my vet is very good...and very honest. He will give me the best advice....in fact he is probably more sentimental than me...and has known all my pets from the day I got them...which is very nice and very reassuring.
I suppose its part of the deal with the beloved animals of ours but I just wish they had longer with us...

Re: Thomas...and when is the time right

Ahhh Het, tis a position that isn't a nice one but is part of what we agree to when we take the furbabies on.
As for the time, you will know. There will be a day when you look in Tomas' eyes and just see his love of life has gone...then is the time to say goodbye.
My thoughts are with you at this time

Re: Thomas...and when is the time right

I'm so sorry, Het. It's a difficult decision to have to make. I've been "lucky" in that I've never had to do it with a cat (I kept having to leave whatever country I was living in at the time and leaving my moggies in the care of capable hands), but I did have to do it to a much-beloved pet once.

Enjoy him for now. I'm sure he'll let you know when it's time. I'm glad you have a good vet to help guide you through this difficult time.

Re: Thomas...and when is the time right

Oh Het I feel for you I really do, it's so worrying when they get older, Tabs is now almost 14 and although i'm confident she has many years of happiness left yet, I still worry that the time is getting closer. Every illness or problem, you cross your fingers that this isn't going to be 'it'.

I'm sure you will know Het, we have a bond with out animals like our children, you will see when he is not enjoying his life and you will know what is right. Please don't let it burden your happiness with him now.

All the very best Het
Kel xx

Re: Thomas...and when is the time right

I am so sorry you are going to have to face this - I have done it more times than I care to remember recently, but it doesn't make it any easier. You might want to have a few frank talks with your vet, it might help get things clearer in your mind. I would always prefer mine to go a day too soon, but that might just be me. When he starts having more bad times than good times, you should know. Big hugs to you though, and fingers crossed the increase in medication will work.

Het, I'm so sorry to hear about Thomas, it must be very distressing for you.
I'm afraid I cannot add anymore to what the others have said....just that I think you will know when it's time by the look in his eyes...

Thinking of you and Thomas ((((hugs))))
