Re: Identification, what do you use?

Collar and tag for both of mine. Dont wander out of the garden generally so feel fairly secure with the collars. Never lost a collar yet!! But one day I will get them microchipped too I am sure!

Re: Identification, what do you use?

Eva has a microchip, collar and tag. Up till this year she only had the collar and tag but felt it better to microchip her. The tag only has a phone number on it but the new collars she nad Bernie have are printed ones that say, if found call and our number.
Bernie has a collar and microchip. The collars are both printed the same and are bright colours, I like them to have a collar so I can tell at a distance who is who coz if Eva has her back to me then she and Bernie look alike.
Winston had none of these but Winston never left the house except for the odd occasion when he would lie in the hallway.
I would never consider tattooing as, haveing several tattoo's myself, I am aware just how painfull they can be.

There wasn't any option for "None of the Above". Or should I have checked "Other'/ Mine are strictly housecats; never go out; I used to walk my previous cats on a harness and lead with an ID tag attached.

Re: Identification, what do you use?

I have both mine microchipped.
I used to use collars (safety) and tags as well, but we got through so many of them it got beyond a joke! I was buying 4-6 collars at a time and having the tags printed in 4's. They were only lasting a fortnight and it just got too expensive! They were not too keen on the either.
I just hope that if anything were to happen to them, someone would contact a vet or something, just so that I would know if the worst were to happen. I have stopped and called the owner when I found a cat with a collar and tag that had been hit by a car.

Re: Identification, what do you use?

Mine only have microchips. As Tilly is somewhat dense and would manged to hang herself on a collar and Buster wouldn't like it either SA they are both somewhat feral in a kind of soppy way. I have also seen loads of cats with collar injurys. Also I like the look of cats with out collars. But it does mean if they ever get lost I will have to rely on them getting scanned to get them back.
I do see that the safety collars would be good but have decided to go without.

Re: Identification, what do you use?

All my 3 are chipped and collared, Tom just has a collar as he is a long term foster. I do wish there was something done to females when spayed in case they end up in rescues later in life - I heard on an AMerican forum of some mark done at the spay site so if they were shaved again, it would show, and I think I prefer that to an ear tattoo.

What the trap/spay-neuter & release groups here in the States for ferals is ear-tip so thy can be recgnized when seen again. Suppose a small ear-tip would work for pets also....

Re: Identification, what do you use?

I had India chipped, she had virtually no hair round her neck whe we got her and she had been in the rescue for 4 months, so I reckoned the collar she had must have been far to tight for her. I did try a collar on her but she spent so much time scratching that I gave up, but I don't like them anyway, and as she now goes over the lane and into the wood she could get herself caught up on all sorts of branches etc.

Since her experience last week with the Staffie she has become much more a stay-at-home cat but is quite happy going out by herself again once she has made certain that the coast is clear. Logoes

We do eartip here, but only for ferals in TNR situations.

Re: Identification, what do you use?

Thanks folks, seem the chip is most popular. I rather like the idea of a tattoo/mark where they were spayed, maybe an option for males and females, clip coat, tattoo and be there permanently.
Dawn.
