Oh dear Maybe contact lenses are the only answer then.

I hope you find a solution that you're happy with soon.

Re: So Miserable

Oh Donna, I am so sorry you feel so bad about wearing your specs. I guess i am just used to it, been a speccy git all my life, well most of it.
I remember as a child I had these awful wire rimmed penny eyes, I used to bury them in the garden, once i even threw them in a cement mixer Needless to say my folks were'nt impressed at all.
I hated wearing them at school and ended up not wearing them at all but for the last 20 years I have been part of the four eyes brigade.
It wont do any harm to ask about contacts, I cannt wear them due to stigmatism (almost said stigmatta then )
Try not to get so down Donna, there are worse things that could happen. xxx

Re: So Miserable

LOL Elaine . . . I shall tell my husband he should rename his astigmatism as stigmata . . . he'll be most impressed

Donna - have you considered laser surgery? I IS drastic but it will once and for all end the need for glasses/contacts.

I would strongly recommend you try the lenses. My optician fitted them for me, and I didn't feel them being put in. HE then made me take them out and it was just so easy-peasy you wouldn't believe. The benefits so outweigh any minor discomfort and you WILL feel a new confidence . . . I did

But ultimately Mags and DM are right, you ARE a pretty, confident, able and bright woman who really shouldn't let some bit of plastic infront of her eyes get her down . . . it's just a tool to help you do things better.

Lots of love to you and I hope you can work this out in a way that works best for you!

Re: So Miserable

OK I am coming in on a discussion that appears to be on going but Donna.... there is nothing wrong with wearing glasses.... One of my mates went out and bought herself a pair with plain glass in them just so she could look intellectual....... needless to say she now wears real ones lol...... you should be proud and show off.... I wear em and I think I look very intelligent.... maybe not pretty but then again i never was lol.....

you get used to them hun xxx

I have astigmatism in one eye so maybe I wont be allowed contacts

Have looked at websites re laser treatment but it is too expensive and will only repair long or short sight so will have to have glasses for one or the other, unless one eye was long sight and one was for short but that is just not right

Will see what they say Saturday... can struggle on a few more days not seeing

Donna, a friend of mine had cataract surgery and he had IOLs (intraocular lenses)
fitted with one eye for short and one for long and , weird as it sounds, loves it, has absolutely no problems at all! IOLs are permanent implants for people with cataracts, but I wonder if it couldn't be done with contacts...??? Might be worth looking into, since you really are having so much trauma with the glasses,,

Re: So Miserable

I'm sorry you are feeling this way Donna, I don't have a problem wearing glasses, more so these days than when I was 14 (when I first started wearing them) Infact my daughter asked me the other day could she have an eye test in the hope she might need glasses Glasses are so 'in' these days and my hubby thinks I'm sexier with them on Seriously, you will get used to them and even might start to like them. {{{Hugs}}}
