So Miserable

Have been so miserable since I got my glasses on Thursday. Just not able to wear them without hiding away from everyone. Still feel like a complete idiot with a bit of plastic stuck to my face.

So... booked an appointment for Saturday to see if I can or want to try contact lenses. Not sure if I am able to or if I can stick things in my eyes... but gotta try something as I am still driving and working on a pc all day with bad eyes....

Fingers crossed I can try them, and afford them of course...

Re: So Miserable

I know how you feel Donna, I was like that with my glasses, but had to wear them a year before I could get contacts, it does become easier, like you I would not wear them out, but when I ended up ordering a nest of tables instead of a cat bed, decided to wear them....you do get used to them...
I have contacts now and they are brilliant, was not sure about putting things in my eyes, but I do not even know they are there now, and so easy to put in and take out...

What did you think of your glasses when you tried them on in the opticians Donna? Did you like them then? It is probably just the newness of having to wear them for the first time that is upsetting you ......or is it embarrassment? Does anyone else wear glasses where you work? I'm sure that once you have worn them for a week, people have got used to seeing you with them and then they won't notice anything different about you at all. Really it is all in your mind ......when you are out and about, just look around and see how many people are wearing glasses.......... loads of them! And I bet you don't think anything of them having to wear them, do you? It is the same for you, nobody will take any notice and will still treat you the same as you are now.
Sending big ((((hugs)))) to you because I think you need them right now.. xx

Re: So Miserable

Aw Donna - chin up chick!
Understand what you are saying, and no matter how many times I, or anyone else here, tells you that no-one will notice etc etc, it doesn't matter, cos it's what you feel that counts, and you feel ............ all those things - ugly, unattractive, useless, old, blind, decrepit etc. You're not, at all, you're a hard-working single mum, doing her best for her family.
But only you can turn those feelings around - hope you can do it soon.

.......... and contact lenses? Absolute lifesavers! Make you put a smile on your face, and you walk 3" taller. Daily disposables come in at about £20 a month, all in - no fluids required etc. Monthly disposables (which you remove every night) are much cheaper (about £10 a month, plus fluids?) Monthly leave in all the time disposables (which you couldn't use straight off anyway) are £22 ish, no fluids.

Good luck

No I hated them in the shop, but hated them less than any others I tried.

Yes, complete embarrasement. Feel like a freak. Want to see without a big square bit of plastic stuck on my face.

Does anyone else wear glasses where you work?

No one else wears glasses at my work I sit and hide behind my pc and if anyone looks at me then I take them off.... and not been putting them back on again.

I'm sure that once you have worn them for a week, people have got used to seeing you with them and then they won't notice anything different about you at all.

No way can I wear them a WEEK!!!! Only wear them in private at home. And after today I think I will stamp on them and throw them in the bin

Really it is all in your mind ......when you are out and about, just look around and see how many people are wearing glasses.......... loads of them!

I know loads of people wear them, I dont really pay any attention to them, but I still feel like a freak

And I bet you don't think anything of them having to wear them, do you? It is the same for you, nobody will take any notice and will still treat you the same as you are now.

Thanks for your input. I know its all in my head. I know I am being stupid... but I cant stop myself feeling like this.

Aww, Donna.
Not sure what this is. Do you think it might help?

And repeat after me - "I am an attractive, healthy young woman. I am blessed with two healthy children. I am a valued workmate. I am an attractive, healthy etc etc ...."
Maybe the sun will shine tomorrow

Re: So Miserable

Donna, I;m so sorry you feel this way! I can't really understand why it bothers you so much, as I've worn glasses since I was six, but if it's giving you this much distress maybe you'd better try the contacts, Everyone that has them seems to love them...the mere idea of putting something in my eye repels me, but that's just me. As long as you hate them so, give the contacts a shot.....

Re: So Miserable

I'm sorry they are getting you down Donna.

I think Mags and DM have given some good advice.

Are you meant to wear them all the time or only for computer work?

I have glasses that I have to wear at work for the PC and bright lights, but I don't have to wear them for anything else, so I keep them in my desk at work, put them on in the morning and leave them here when I go home. Most people I know out of work don't even know I wear glasses. Maybe you could do the same if it suits your situation.

Hugs
