Re: When do you take your tree down?

It comes down on Twelfth Night, never earlier and never later! Just call me a traditionalist!

Re: When do you take your tree down?

When I was still having a tree it was Twelfth Night for me also; to be frank I was getting a bit weary of hoovering up needles and plucking off the icicles that attached to the cats fur by static electricity every time they walkd past it......

Not to change the subject but noticed that none of the pictures of your lovely trees showed icicles? Is that not common practice in the UK? I've never had a tree without them, even in childhood... most people here do.

Re: When do you take your tree down?

Are we talking about dangling strips of tinsel over the ends of the branches? If so, then, I used to love having icicles on our tree, it was the rest of the family that hated them!

I loved the way they twinkled in a current of air! Our old spaniel used to attract them and they'd cling to her coat, she'd also end up swallowing one or two and you could see where she'd "been for business" in the garden as they twinkled in the moonlight!

Yes, that's what I meant. It was lovely to see them sparkling in the air currents; luckily I never had a cat who ate them!

Re: When do you take your tree down?

Do you mean the long gold tinselly ropes that you have draped on the tree? That's what we call garland here; icicles are long strips of silvery metal (they used to be lead foil when I was a child) or some sort of silvery looking plastic that you drape on the ends of the branches.... will see if I can dig out an old tree pic and copy it.......

Re: When do you take your tree down?

no not the garlands DM, you cant see it properly on that photo but I have little strips of red and gold tinsel type stuff that I just throw onto the tree and it falls where it likes and moves in the breeze. The tree looks like it's breathing sometimes lol!
