Hi all! Cold miserable all day rain, only 2C, wind chill -2; a nasty change from yesterday's delightful, if unseasonable 19!! Off to the market, and the Post Office to mail my Secret Santa parcel, do hope it will get to the UK by Christmas! DM, many years ago I bought a pheasant au naturel...have regretted it ever since. I tried the wet plucking method, but no one told me that wet pheasant feathers smell, well, absolutely horrible...had to open the kitchen windows to let the awful odor out, and it was freezing cold! The bird was tasty, but will never do it again... Anyhow, you, having done it before, probably don't need a refresher, but here's a link: http://www.honest-food.net/blog1/wil...ail-partridge- Click on how to pluck. Yola, glad Bailie's a bit better.Janey, hope you enjoy the pantomime; Matron, glad things were sorted a bit yesterday; hang in there! (((hugs))) Stay warm and dry, have a nice day. |

I've never plucked a pheasant, don't think I'd have the nerve! Well done to those of you willing to have a go though. I'm reminded of a rather risqué song and should be ashamed of myself " I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm the pheasant plucker's son I'm only plucking pheasants 'till the pheasant plucker comes............" It's a very, very long song, just don't try it if you're even the slightest bit tipsy!! I'm keeping myself busy in the kitchen all the time now, I've done the almond paste on the cake today and used some scraps to make little Battenberg marzipan sweets. I also made loads of coconut ice and will be doing fudge tomorrow. It's lovely to have time for all this again now that I'm enjoying being retired. |

Morgan's doing fine, thanks DM. He's finished all the teething I hope and at 6 months old is now full height according to the breed standard. He needs to fill out a bit yet and I'll be glad when it's time to strip out his puppy coat as he's a great big fluff ball. He's reasonably obedient but very good at "puppy deafness" when he chooses! The cats ignore him as much as possible although Jason loves to tease him by sitting in the window sill and swinging his tail at him then moving slightly, in that bored, slinky way that cats do, so that Morgan bangs his head on the wall. At that point Jason stalks triumphantly out of the room and I swear he sniggers as he leaves! |

Coz he's a bloke Tink!! Mine will drop coats, scarves, cups, etc wherever he happens to be. He put the little one to bed tonight and Sebi's clothes are still strewn all over our bed. Not in Sebi's room or in the wash bag . . . I don't think you're alone - it's something we all have to deal with (and a conversation I was having with our bookkeeper along almost exactly the same lines this afternoon . . .) |
