Re: Grapefruit Saturday

Pamela, the car's MOT ran out today, we'd forgetten about it but fortunately the mechanic we use was able to do it for us. We are going to be buying a new car as soon as we find one
Glad you had a nice day and have got your car back

Re: Grapefruit Saturday

Thanks everybody.

Just spoke to dad and the consultants think mum could have meningitis which does explain why she is so unresponsive.

Re: Grapefruit Saturday

Mum has had a bone marrow transplant, and it is very common to get the graft v host disease, this is where the graft's cells attack the host, and can start attacking the hosts organs, kidney's, liver..mum has got level 4 which is the worst, where it attacks the liver, kidneys and also the mucus linings, mouth, eyes, skin, bowel.

So she has got a terrible rash, very swollen, jaundice....one of the main concerns are infections as these can kill the host in a matter of hours... It is a very scarey time and I just prey she pulls through..

Re: Grapefruit Saturday

Good Lord I am sorry for your Mom and the whole family Emma.

I assume the facy she had a transplant was because they thought it would help and hopefuly "cure" if not an improvement. You never realise do you of the issues these things cause.

I hope all goes well and she is comfortable and responsive soon. Your Dad must be in bits I often think being the patient is often the easy bit (having been in that role myself) being the visitor/carer )been there too) is the hardest role thing I think.

I would rather have been told the bad news alone than see the eyes of the people I love fill with fear. You end up feeling guilty for being ill and those who are well feel guilty for not being ill..........Love is a perfect circle think - for you wish you could take the hurt and pain away yet you can't both parties just seem to stumble through the day - may I wish you all the strength to carry on stumbling.

And remember my friend we are here.

Re: Grapefruit Saturday

Thanks Kazz, she had no option but to have the bone marrow transplant, she had one course of chemo and they couldnt proceed with that line of treatment as her own bone marrow wasn't responding well enough to go through a further course. Dad was doing ok until she went into intensive care...
