Re: Heartbreaking

Sorry but this is becoming ridiculous now with every one taking offence at the slightest thing.
Its becoming farcical with so many different threads all going over the same old ground.
We have all made our feeling crystal clear so lets strive to resolve it and not all throw our toys out of the pram.

Trouble is Eileen, I think this goes deeper than just views.

I totally agree Donna. This is definitely the 'nicest' forum I have been on and I go on quite a few!

I give a stuff too. I think a forum is a powerful place and as animal lovers we need to be actively promoting neutering.

In his many posts on this forum there has always been an excuse for not having her done, while other pets have been. This speaks to me of deliberately wanting her to have a litter, especially when he spoke of knowing exactly which cat impregnated her. he may only be young but as he is more than capable of giving us information on cats then I'm equally sure he was able to impart that knowledge to his parents. And what really got to a lot of people was the tone of his post, where he almost demanded that we not criticise him in anyway!! WHY? what makes him immune to other people anger? I for one have no problem with anyone who chooses to breed cats, PROVIDED it is done in a safe manner, with cats that are health checked etc. There will always be a demand for pet cats but this should be supplied in a proper way!
A lot of unpleasantness has been caused by this issue because, as Kazz says, this is a subject very close to peoples hearts. I for one have absolutley no gripe with anyone who has had an accidental litter when it is exactly that, owners who have tried very hard not to have their cats 'caught out', but for those who have taken no precautions at all I have no sympathy and if that makes me a b***h then so be it.
I have sorted out my problem with the other person concerned and was very seriously considering coming back on here after my trip up north, but now I dont think I'll bother. Catsey has changed, and not for the better! This was a lovely place where views could be aired in a sensible manner and if people disagreed then it was usually sorted out quite amicably, not so with this one! And tbh, I dont see how it can be when so many condone through their inaction what Luke and others like him have done!
Well said Alex!!!

I found it very strange that Luke was so defensive. How dare anyone feel they can restrict people's views, especially over something so important on a cat forum!!

Kazz, thank-you for this thread. I think you have made some really valid points. We definitely should be able to express our views and opinions especially over something as fundamental as this! we do have a choice. I think it is extremely sad if Elaine and Alex go, and I wouldn't be surprised if many others follow. On one rescue board I go on, if someone had admitted that they allowed thier cat/dog to become pregnant there would have been total uproar! Many of us are involved in rescue and this is just not acceptable.

Re: Heartbreaking

Hi All, locking this thread as I have addressed the topic here: http://www.catsey.com/showthread.php...266#post410266

I'll repost it here tho:

I think some valid points have been made (and some not-so-valid ones).

To begin with, and in short, yes we (as in all cat lovers everywhere not just here) need to make more people aware of the problems and the plight of animals in rescue - but no, we do not allow public floggings or 'bitchy', nasty, condescending tones and behaviour. Nobody has the right to treat another member like s***. We are not like the other forums in that respect - and that's something I am very proud of (and you should be too!). As I have always said, in all of the sites that I admin - there are ways and means to get your point across.

So - where do we go from here? Well I will be creating some posting guidelines for Catsey, similar to as we have on Dogsey - because we need to spell out what we deem is and is not acceptable behaviour. And I will be pushing ahead with the mod scheme - perhaps to begin with ask one or two of our Golbal Mods from Dogsey to pop over to help train Catsey's own mods, to do things in accordance with our rule book on Dogsey (as it will pretty much be the same here). I have generally let Catsey self-regulate, but as we are growing now we need to start enforcing our rules.

Of course I can see that some topics are very emotive, and some things upset people (although that still doesn't give anyone the right to be 'nasty') but in those instances 9 times out of a 10 an article could easily be written that goes into detail as to why such and such is not acceptable, or why some practises are considered unethical/irresponsible. Again it all boils down to how you get your point across.

This posting is not directed at any one person or any one situation - it's clarification of what Catsey is about and probably more importantly what it isn't about.

Now back on topic for this thread. If you have anything to say about the above or anything posted before this post (except for the 1st post) then use the feedback section - otherwise we'll be here forever.

Who would like to work on updating SB's article to reflect on the cat world? Please say so again even if you have already done so.

In addition I think it might be a good idea to start a new thread or perhaps even a have your say section where people can put their opinion across on the matter with reasons to back them up (so not just a pointless rant thread - give people something to think about, something that might make them think the same as you too - it's all about raising awareness and education remember!!). So I will get on that and get it sorted soon.

In the meantime - thank you everyone for taking the time to post in this thread, and your continued support for Catsey. Bout time we got a mod team sorted, we did well to do without for so long so you can all pat yourselves on the back
As stressed in my post, we are all allowed an opinion, but we must put them across in an amicable acceptable manner.

At the same time we shouldn't be afraid to disagree with people just because they are our friends - I know a lot of Catsey members are realy softies at heart- but we should still be able to disagree on things and still be friends.

Anyway, changes coming soon, but in the meantime if anyone has any further feedback please use the feedback section. I won't delete this thread, so it's there for everyone else to read.

PS - no more similar threads please, time to move on
