Re: Dog Owners....

I cannot believe people are willing to put a dogs life before a childs. This is ridiculous.

If the dog had got the little girl, god knows what would of been the outcome. Her whole leg ripped off? Shaken around the garden by her head??

The dog should be PTS but it has been a few days now, and nothing has happened. The police didnt come out, the dogs have disappeared from the house.

What a mad world we live in if there are people who care more for an agressive nasty dog, than they do a childs life.

Re: Dog Owners....

its not a case of valuing a childs life over a dogs life - I respect and value all life its about making judgement without getting your emotions in the way.

I don't see what happened as being an unprovoked attack. Some dogs are very wary of children and can get worried by them - these dogs should be kept under supervision if there are kids running about and yes these dogs can be trained. I'm not saying what happened isn't terrible I just think instantly calling for the death of the dog is wrong.

You can attack me if you like but I think you are making a very harsh judgement - you are entitled to your thoughts and I am entitled to mine.

Re: Dog Owners....

It is very relevant. If you had a child that was attacked you would feel differently. You would spend your whole life protecting that child and would put them first before anything.... including a viscious dog.

Re: Dog Owners....

Yes some dogs are wary of children, but that's no excuse for attacking a child.

Re: Dog Owners....

I don't think it is relevant and I'm not trying to make an excuse for what happened.

I just think when something goes wrong its best to step out and look at the whole picture. Why has this happened, what could be done in the future to prevent this etc.

The dog attacked because it was able to jump the boundary - the dog was obviously upset by these children the owner of the dog did not protect their dog properly - now they have put the dogs into hiding because of their fear of people calling to have the PTS.

Would it not be better for the dog to be examined by a vet to make sure there is not an underlying medical condition, for training to be carried out and for the owner to be taught responsible dog ownership.

This might prevent further incidents in the future.

If you call for the death of the dog then there is nothing stopping the owner in getting another dog and the whole scenario can happen again.

You all think that I'm mad and valuing a dogs life over a childs - well I'm not valuing any-ones life more than any-one elses - I just want to come up with a solution that is fair for all - if you can't see that thats your problem not mine

Re: Dog Owners....

also the dog is now in hiding - if there is a serious medaical problem causing this then some-one else could be attacked - this is wrong the dog needs to be examined by a vet and a behaviourist

Re: Dog Owners....

Well maybe your attitude will change if you ever get attacked by a dog or had a child that was attacked.

Anyway, it is now in the hands of the police. If they do nothing then the dog and the owner has got away with it.

And another child will be in danger.

Re: Dog Owners....

I have been attacked by two dogs.

One was a German Shepherd - I was a dog walker and the dog got spooked and turned on me - through the whole incident I just kept thinking if I let go of the lead the dog could be killed by the road - the dog tore all my clothes very badly - but I managed to calm the dog down using calming signals I had learned from Turid Ruugas and I got the dog home and back in his kennel. I was very shaken over the incident but I managed to stop my face from being mauled only my clothes were shredded.

My second attack was from an English Bull Terrier who ripped the pocket of my jacket out and then jumped on my back and pulled my pony tail out.

So yes I have been attacked by dogs
