absolutley - we all have different views in life its what makes this life interesting - and the only way we can learn is by talking things through and listening to other people - we all have different life experiances that make us who we are today |

it's terrible to hear that the authorities havent done a thing about this attack. I find that disgracefull. The owners have obviously had time to move th dogs to a different location, but that wont solve the problem, it just means they'll /it will still be out there able to attack people. Disgracefull that peoples lives can be affected so adversly like this and NOTHING gets done about it. Doent bear thinking about what might have happened had all three children not made it into the house and found something to defend themselves with. And in all that time no sign of the owners! When we had a dog if I so much as heard him bark I'd be outside in the garden to see what he was up to. |

Smudgley I agree with everything you have said above. Unfortunatly like this case seems the owners have been at fault by not training this dog correctly. What kind of training has it been given? Agression? In some very sad cases a dog has to be pts as I think it's the case for this one. No matter how much love you put into an agressive dog it will never change. Even if it was removed from the owners and placed with someone else. Knowing it "had" bitten and it wasn't a case of he said, she said, would you want to trust it round other kids? |

Although I do not own a dog, if I did and if it ever attacked a child I too would have it pts. If is has attacked once it could attack again, and I could not live with myself if a child died because I did not take action the first time around. However if I ever got a dog I would hope that it would be brought up to be gentle and would never attack a child. |

ok, we'll put this thread to bed, but just ponder over this - Everyone knows about the fight / flight reaction -- ok for the benefit of those who don't, it is what a dog does when in an uncomfortable situation. EG if you back a dog into a corner & if he feels uncomfortable what are his options? He can A) "fight" ie protect himself by attacking whatever is frightening him or B)"fly" ie move away / back off / be submissive Those are his options, now any dog that does A) can be forgiven, he's uncomfortable, maybe scared, feels he needs to protect himself. Back to the dog in question, he was not defending himself, he was not in an uncomfortable situation, he didn't need to protect himself. He chose to chase the children & he chose to attack (not defend himself) but attack the child. Probably not explained that well, but hope you get my point. ** Also I don't usualy post on threads that are debating issues as they usually get heated, however it's good that this thread has been discussed, with different points of view in a sensible & adult way ** |
