Can I have a rant please

My friend had an elderly cat, Somerset, who was pts last year after having hepatic lipidosis. A few months later she took in a 9 year old female kitty called Tia.
The day after Tia arrived my friend called me to say that she had to go because she had got no sleep because Tia was crying through the night. I told her not to be so silly and that Tia needed some time to settle, I gave her some practical advice which helped and Tia settled. Not so much as a thankyou.
She has always talked affectionately about Tia to me but to others she is always saying things like, well she just isnt like Somerset yada yada yada.
Tonight she called to say Tia had to go because she is clawing furniture and wallpaper and again she had had no sleep because of her clawing. She has no scratch post...... Last month I bought her a scratch mat and again there was no thankyou or indeed repayment for my trouble. I told her then to get her a scratch post.
Tonight I told her I was going to Pets at Home to get a few things and asked her to come with me as they had a sale on. She said she couldnt come coz she had to make a call. I asked her if the call couldnt wait half an hour? Apparently not. Every bit of practical help is met with resistance. The truth of it is she doesnt want to spend any money on the cat but would be more than happy for me to p[rovide the cat with all it needs, like I dont have enough to do with my own. She also earns twice what I do. In the end i told her that she probably should find a new home for the poor kitty and never to have a cat at all.
Fact: Cats have claws! Fact: Cats will use claws Fact: Ofcourse Tia isnt Somerset!!!
I am so bloody angry!!!

Why did that lady get another cat? She obviously hadnt got over the loss of Somerset and is now resenting Tia. Poor thing. Maybe the best thing would be for Tia to find someone who appreciates and loves her.

I am still sooo fuming about this. She is sooo tight fisted!!! Poor little Tia is the sweetest little kitty. My O/H goes mental as every time he comes home there is something new for the cats LOL. I maybe dont always succeed but I try to make my cats as happy and interesting as I can.

Re: Can I have a rant please

Once I have calmed down a bit I am going to talk to my friend (I use that term loosly) about maybe putting an ad in the papers, some flyers in the vets etc. I'd take Tia in a minute but have enough going on here and dont want to tip the balance for my 3. Also Tia has always been an only cat and apparently doesnt get on well with other cats.
She is also seriously obese and I fear for her health. My friend hasnt even registered her with a vet yet and ignored me when I spoke about her weight. Its not funny and its not cute. A fat cat is not a happy cat.

I hope you can help Tia one last time by talking to your "friend" and getting her to agree to finding a new home for the poor kitty.

Re: Can I have a rant please

She is not taking my calls but she did e-mail me at 4 am this morning to complain about Tia and her previous owners. Have just sent an e-mail back saying I will try to find her a loving home and in the mean time can she put an ad in the paper/vets.
I know its frustrating when an animal keeps you awake but she is doing absolutely nothing to find practical solutions.
If I wasnt having so much difficulty getting Eva to accept Bernie, I would go and get her right now but I cannt risk causing more upset to my lot coz its not fair on them or Tia.
I am just really furious about all this and I could bet after rehoming Tia she will go get another cat at some point.

Re: Can I have a rant please

Sounds like the best thing all round if Tia gets a new home. Seemingly your friend seems to be resenting her and probably should have waited a while longer after the loss of her other cat before getting a new one.
If she doesn't address the weight issue then she risks losing this cat too to lipidosis
Poor Tia, hope she finds a new mummy who will love and care for her...
