When my sinuses are play up I tend to steam my face and put some menthol crystals in the water and breath deeply. It doesnt cure it but it does give temporary releif. I do all that kind of stuff, vics, sinutab, eucalyptus oil on my pillow etc. |

I suffer with this Donna. The recent bout I had along with a chest infection resulted in antibiotics as in the end I felt so terribly ill. I had really bad headaches and toothache too due to the pressure within my sinuses. The antibiotics were co-amoxiclav if I remember rightly. Steam inhalation is good as is the use of decongestants (short term use only) The best decongestant I have found is Otrivine. Hope you feel better soon. Have you not got a walk in clinic at the local hospital were you could get ABs dispensed? |

i use steam too, i got a facial sauna quite cheap from ebay, under a fier with pstage. It's smashing. I put some menthol crystals in it, i buy from the chemist. just a word of warning, if you do buy menthol crystsls and have enver used them before DONTadd more than 1-2 crystals, no matter how tiny you think they look!!! i made that mistake the first time, nearly blew my brains out! |

Try and find someone in your area who does the Hopi Ear candling - I know it sounds crazy, but it's the best way to get your sinuses to drain and clear without resorting to drugs. Steaming is wonderful for softening up the "gunk" and gentle face massage helps to shift it too. New Era tissue salts (from the chemist or health store) for sinus problems will also help to drain the problem out. Conventional remedies tend to dry the sinuses out and they then block up more easily the next time you get a cold |

Hubby suffers from it very badly. They tend to get infected too. We've tried pretty well all the OTC medicines and also herbal remedies and although some work for a short time, the only thing that shifts it is antibiotics. |

Not a remedy I'm afraid - but a preventative. Sympathy as well, I'm not a sufferer, although I have had it once or twice and know how awful it is - Like having a small elephant somewhere inside your face! Apparently, to stop a cold or sniffle developing into sinusitis, sufferers should never, ever, blow their nose! So, just 'let it flow' and dab decorously at the end of your proboscis. The most positive thing you can do is just pinch the end of your nose, whilst holding a tissue. Don't blow, try not to sniff - just let the nasty escape and mop it then. This would make it very difficult to actually leave your house but may be the answer for sufferers who have a bad time - just take a day or two off and nip the problem in the bud. I think inhaling menthol is good too, and keeping the atmosphere moist, by maybe putting a damp cloth or a shallow dish of water on the radiators. Maybe an ioniser would improve the air quality too? Don't know? Hope you're better soon Donna. |
