Re: Satellite Navigation..

My mum has got a tomtom and thinks it is great, I know a lot of people who have got them, I think they are one of the best to get

She got hers from Halfords and couldn't find it anywhere cheaper

Re: Satellite Navigation..

I had a PDA (hand held PC / GPS) for 12 months - which was good, but had lots of things on it - which I didn't use. I only used the GPS. After 12 months it broke & I got a refund & bought a Tom Tom - I just have the 300 as I don't need the blue tooth connection & I won't be going out of this country. We have got a 700 at work. But the 300 is all I need. I love it & wouldn't be without it. My job involves driving from one house to another covering a large part of the Midlands. I look after about 90 people & have to find my way from one house to another all the time. It's great - worth every penny. I did a bit of research when I was looking for another GPS & basically everyone I spoke to said the Tom Tom wins every time.

Re: Satellite Navigation..

Thanks all, I think I will get a Tomtom. The blue tooth facility would be useful for me as I do have a bluetooth phone and don't have a handsfree kit.

I really need one of these systems as I am absolutely terrible with directions and get in a real flap when I don't know where I am going. I often go to see my puppies in their new homes and take the girls to stud etc and my hubby has to write directions both there and back for me literally road by road I think he is looking forward to me having Sat Nav

Re: Satellite Navigation..

There is one built into my boss's Landcruiser Amazon. Its ok, offers loads of info, how many miles to travel, how long at current speed, petrol stations, hotels etc most things you wont need! It is good for a lot of unsure journeys, especially long ones, but many havent got new roads like the Birmingham Toll road which will really mess you up if you go down the M42!

Personally, I wouldnt want one, but most people like them.
dawn.

Re: Satellite Navigation..

I hope they have improved since the originals. Oh had a co. car delivered (by mistake) with one fitted - about 5 years ago. he took it out for a trial, put in a local destintion he knew, with a local shortcut he knew but this b***** thing insisted he went up a counrty lane that led no-where - except a field. At that time, if you ignored, the blimmin woman just kept insisting that 'where safe' you perform a U turn and get back under her control!
Good luck with yours.

Re: Satellite Navigation..

Wasn't there something about that on telly not too long ago? One of them recommending a best/quickest/shortest route between two places in England...via France.

Re: Satellite Navigation..

Well we bought the Tomtom 510. It's brilliant If you take a wrong turn, it just redirects you via another way (we took wrong routes on purpose to try it out ). It really is excellent from what I have seen of it so far. Going to try it out on my own tomorrow when I go to see Henry and Daisy (2 pups from my last litter) Will let you know how I get on

From what I have been hearing whilst looking into having Sat Nav, the factory fitted ones supplied when you buy a new car aren't up to much. Everyone I have spoken to recommended the Tomtom.
