Horrible day!!

Sorry to sound off (especially as I haven't been here for long) but I am having a NIGHTMARE day and needed to just 'getitallout'!!

I'm a teacher and have had 3 year 8 (12/13 year olds) classes today and I could have happily killed some of them. For some reason, year 8 in my school is a total nightmare, but I'm shattered and they have behaved appallingly!

So far today I have had to break up a fight, had a child refuse to do work/leave the classroom/do anything i asked of her, I have issued 12 detensions (which means I have to sit around after school waiting for students who will never turn up), written a report about the fight, and ended the day with a classroom floor covered with paper and glue, a 5 pairs of scissors missing!!

And this evening I have to stay late for my pastoral care meeting and THEN plan all my lessons for tomorrow!

Someone please remind me why I decided to become a teacher???!

Re: Horrible day!!

Sorry to hear of your bad day.

There seems to be nothing anyone can do anymore to control children. My two go to secondary school and it amazes me some of the stories they tell me of what kids can do to teachers...

You have my support in your difficult job!

Re: Horrible day!!

There was something on television about that yesterday (how the balance of power has shifted and kids have the authority in the classroom, with the full support of their parents)!!!! I have to say, you're brave in your choice of career because where once teachers were respected it seems very sadly that now they're the 1st in line for abuse

Just think about the end of the day and sitting down with a lovely glass of wine and a browse around CP

Re: Horrible day!!

awh sorry to hear about your bad day at work

I definately don't envy you - I remember being at school and you just didn't dare say anything out of line to any adults - but these days kids seem to have been allowed to push the boundaries to incredible levels.

I'm sure there will be days where you make a difference though to a kids life and they will remember you for that.

Hope tomorrow brings a better day.

Re: Horrible day!!

Saddest thing is that most (the huge majority) of the kids are just great but the herd instinct seems to get the better of them and they are all dragged towards the behaviour of the worst ones. Shame.
And I don't understand why teachers are not allowed to teach instead of baby-sitting or operating a sort of kiddy-corral. How can you teach when you have to spend all your eneergy on discipline?

have a better day tomorrow.
