All the pups we (Guide Dogs) breed will go onto the puppy walking scheme (unless there is an obvious physical problem / health problem) then they are constantly assessed then by a sUPERVISOR WHO VISITS THE (whoops) pup regularly. At 12 months they all go in for training & during those vital weeks / months is where they hopefully will all qualify. If they are showing signs of not being able to become a GD, then they will be rehomed to another working home if poss
(police / DFD / hearing dogs etc) or rehomed as a family pet. We have about 75 - 80 % success rate with the dogs we breed.
The breeding stock are specially selected, depending on their line & a million & one other things.
& if they are possibles for becoming a brood / stud they are health tested. - heart / eyes / skin & X-rays to shoulders / hips / elbows & they are temperament /character tested.
We have 230 breeding bitches & they all live in family homes in & around the Midlands. We breed 1200 pups per year & are the biggest dog breeding establishment in the country. We are also the biggest breeders of working dogs in the world.
