Chinese tea

I was just wondering if anyone knows what type of tea it is that chinese restarants serve? ( The chinese tea I mean!)

I've had a pot everytime I've been to a restuarant since I first tasted it two years ago, but never remember to ask them what it is made form.

I really like it though, and want to buy some for home.

If nobody knows I can ask next time I go in, If i remember

Re: Chinese tea

If it's black & slightly fragrant, quite likely Jasmine tea. There are a gazillion diferent varieties of black tea & what they're serving may depend on the preference of the owners. One of our supermarkets carries what is called "Chinese Resuaurant Tea", but have never tried it, so don't know. Ask them the next time you're there; bet they will be flattered!

Re: Chinese tea

Try Jasmin tea. Make sure you brew it only briefly and with less tea-leaves than you would normally. Tastes *very* bitter if you don't.

Re: Chinese tea

thanks everyone.
All i know is there's a few leaves in the bottom of the pot, get some in my cup! and if it's left too long it does get quite bitter.
Will try and remember to ask them.(got a brain like a sieve these days)

Re: Chinese tea

Try both Green Tea and Green Tea with Jasmine and I think you'll find it. The jasmine is obviously the more 'perfumed'. Both made commercially now (Twynings etc) and available in the supermarket. I like both, occasionally. Use only a very little, if it's loose leaf; leave the bag only a short time if it's a tea bag.
