I taken a good look today, given it a clean . But it looks as if the puss is builing up again, and it's very weepy.
SHould I give it a few days to let antibiotics work or take her back now?

can't see much on the pic, but I would give it 48hours to give the abs chance to start working. I would be clipping the hair from around the area too if it's infected.

Re: Alisha's poorly leg- DONT LOOK IF SQUEEMISH (though it's not too bad)

thanks smudgley, i'll wait until hubby is here tongiht and trim it, dont wanna slip when she wriggles and hurt her.
It looks a little blood stianed too, but I know that's sometiems a good sign as it means there's circultaion there and eerything is healing.

I know, I am probalby just worrying a litle too much.
hubby reminded me today oatmeal had an abcess about 2 years ago, and they shavd his leg around it. Wonder why they didnt with alisha, maybe cos she is a kitten.

Appreciate the advice smudgley!

Oh, one (more) question, do i use scissors or a razor? is it ok for me to clip it away myself??

You have kids.. any good, blunt-tipped scissors about? The cheap plasticy ones are no good, but if it's a step up from that you could try it. No danger stabbing anyone, if she moves. Don't forget a wipe (Scissors, not cat!) with a good disinfectant, or at least a good scrub with soap and water before you try it, though.

Re: Alisha's poorly leg- DONT LOOK IF SQUEEMISH (though it's not too bad)

CJ, you could clean the wound itself with a diluted hibiscrub and cooled boiled water. Try the keep the wound open for as long as necessary to clear all the pus out. Misty used to get lots of abscesses from 'disagreements' with other cats. Cats teeth and claws are full of bacteria. I used to treat them myself and not visit the vet unless it was particularly nasty. They always cleared up okay.

Daisy, our beloved greyhound who we lost in Feb, had a very nasty abscess that needed several courses of antibiotics, I actually had to 'inject' the hibiscrub into the cavity. Here is a photo whoich I took at the time to show on another forum.

Re: Alisha's poorly leg- DONT LOOK IF SQUEEMISH (though it's not too bad)

the paw's doing better. Much cleaner and now nicelt trimmed with the help of hubby.
Also got the bicarb aunty kay suggested.
Alisha is being a little darling, and doesnt mind me bathing it at all, and takes her medicine fairly easily too.

She didnt wriggle too much when we were trimming, so all's looking good.
She's darting around like a little minx again, so I know she's feeling better

thanks everyone for the advice
