I am a daft mare!

Been out in the garden all day and as usual had nothing on my feet

Was clearing up some old wood and trellis and accidently stepped on a bit of trellis with a sharp nail sticking out of it It sank right into my foot and it has been hurting all day. It didnt really bleed and there doesnt even really seem to be a mark on my foot, but it hurts to walk on it.

That will teach me to not wear shoes

Was only a nail DM No problems - just a bit sore to walk on, but that is understandable methinks

I'd check with your doctor Donna, you should have had your primary course as a baby and then boosters at school admission age then another at school leaving age. It used to be that you then needed a further 2 boosters 10 years apart to be covered for life but the policies do change from time to time. You really should have a tetanus jab if you are not up to date and have a puncture wound due to a nail. Tetanus is a fatal condition

Incidently, anyone who has contact with horses should be kept up to date with tetanus boosters as horses can carry tetanus in their droppings

Re: I am a daft mare!

Donna, tetanus is caused by a soil dwelling bacterium & puncture wounds contaminated by soil are extremely dangerous...I'm a complete coward about needles but if that had happened to me, I'd be waitng in the ER right now!!
