Desert Island Discs - Kinda

There's a long running show on BBC radio called Desert Island Disks. The guest of the week has to pick ten songs they would take to their desert island. They also one luxury item and three books (alongside the Bible).
I'm still thinking but what songs/books/luxury item would you bring?

This is going to be a fun thread, but need a wee clarification: 10 individual songs or 10 CDs?

I've been mulling this over as I fixed dinner: here goes! Books: Bartlett's Quotations, The Home Medical Encyclopedia, The New York Times Book of Crosswords. Songs: 1) Lola, 2) Hotel California, 3) The Gambler, 4) Leaving on a Jet Plane, 5) Alices Restaurant, 6) This Land is Your Land, 7) Stewball, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts, 9) Bach-Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, 10) Bach-Goldberg Variations. Luxury item: my memory foam mattress and pillow. (Giving away my age a bit with these songs-lol!)

Will work on this at the allotment today and get back to you.
Remember a happy evening in the cabin in the Adirondacks with our Canadian friends (who arrive here Thursday) doing the same thing ... don't think i reached any conclusion there either

Would have to include tracks by Sinatra, Paul Simon, Carly Simon, Van Morrison, Beatles, Leonard Cohen (recent, not miserable historic), Ella Fitzgerald - but which tracks? And which books? EEK!
The bed as a luxury is a good idea though - seems like we all enjoy our beauty sleep!

Re: Desert Island Discs - Kinda

OK - after a few hours thought

Music
Frank Sinatra - Come Fly With Me (just love that arrangement/intro)
Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones
Van Morrison - Moondance
Simon and Garfunkel - America
Squ98eezep (says Bentley) I say Squeeze - Pulling Mussels from the Shell
Derek & the Dominos (aka Clapton) - Layla (?sp)
James Taylor - Sweet Baby James
Beatles - The Long and Winding Road
Queen - Radio Ga Ga
Elgar - Cello Concerto

(but ask me next week and they will change - songs if not artists)

Books
Cannery Row - John Steinbeck
The Art of Captaincy - Mike Brearley
The English Patient - Michael Ondaatje

Luxury
Maybe bed, maybe a world radio (but could I have a Pc - radio and an infinite library and emails? - don't suppose so )
