A fiend for cuddles.

Choo-Choo Bear (which is what we decided to rename Tigger to) is here. I have a general policy of, when a new cat joins the household, leaving them alone to find their bearings.

He disagrees with it immensely As soon as I hold out my hand, he's twining and cuddling around it like a thing possessed, purring and cuddling and loving his fuss. Then he thunks over onto his back to get his belly rubbed!

He wolfed the wet food I set out for him and has explored his litterbox (I bought some more of those Sherleys drops, just in case). And when I went to the loo earlier I could hear him playing with one of the (numerous) toys I've bestowed on him

Off to the vet's tomorrow morning, because I want the state he's in documented and if the vet decides he's well enough I'd like him to get the flea-shot and be wormed.

He's absolutely lovely, and heartbreakingly adorable, but in a right state. So once he's been to the vet's and his current condition has been documented, I'll let him recover for a few hours and take the dry shampoo in to see what can be done... As well as a brush and an undercoat comb.

I'm 99% sure he's semi-longhair (not longhair) but his coat is so thin and miserable it's really hard to tell. I'll get pictures tomorrow - my camera's still broken and my friend will bring his one round tomorrow

He seems to be feeling pretty good within himself, though... His meow is very high-pitched and when he's purring he always adds in some chirping.

He's amazingly small - I have wondered a bit if he's not younger than they said he was. He's supposedly 18 months old, but he's much smaller than Ninja was at a year old, and much more kittenish (although obviously they're different cats, and Choo-Choo has a very pixieish bone-structure to begin with).

Perhaps he's just a small cat. I'm a worrywort

Thought I'd let you all know, he's here and he seems to be happy and feeling well in himself - aside from hiding when someone walks into the bathroom (until he knows they're ok - once I hold my hand out he comes running) he seems perfectly comfortable.

Oh, his owners did put a pillow in his carrier (so now I have two, ooooooh) and mentioned that they thought I could then use it to introduce his scent to the others. I was a bit surprised they'd listened to me that closesly

Thanks, CJ

I think I must have missed a thread: what is Choo-choo's story? Are you keeping him...sounds like it....guess he's not one of Ninja's guests...?

I'm so pleased your finally got him Snoof. I hope his condition improves; I'm certain it will now he has a loving home. Getting his condition documented is an excellent idea btw!

Re: A fiend for cuddles.

Thanks everyone (especially Yola, for being so thoughtful as to edit in the link for DM!).

He has worms. He farts like there's something rotting up his bottom (I've had flatulent cats before, this is like nothing I have ever smelled) and he's shockingly skinny. I suspect (considering their standard of care) that he's had them for a long time, which could explain why he's so small (along with the rampant flea-problem and the underfeeding ).

Tomorrow morning he's going to have his condition documented, and the vet and I will discuss how to worm him and de-flea him. It will probably take some faffing as his condition really isn't the best - he seems well in himself, but his fur is in an awful state (clotted with flea eggs), he's very skinny, and he's been drooling massive amounts of saliva onto himself (we'll hopefully find out why tomorrow morning), which has caused his coat to become even grodier.

And his underbelly now has more hair on it (I think the heat contributed to the hairloss there, or the fleas got more active and caused him to lick more). His bottom is circled with a ring of filth. It's taking some self-restraint not to go fix him up right now, but one more night won't do any more harm and it's important that his previous owners haven't a chance in hell of ever getting their hands on him ever again.

The thing that's hurting me right now is when I look at him. He rolls over on his back and sticks out his front paws to encourage you to pet him, and chirps and purrs and that little face looks at you... And I don't understand why they would let him get in such a state. It's not acceptable for any cat, obviously, but when he's so sweet-natured and gentle... I just can't wrap my head around it.
