When I was a girl we had a female cat Smokey a 1/2 persian and she had a couple of litters of kittens - when she had kittens she went out caught birds mice etc and brought them back stunned them and gave them to the kittens maybe thats a little of what Moli is doing - thinking Salt is a "kitten" and it fascinated me too. |

I think people who have cats should accept this (very natural) part of their nature. They are not 'being cruel' - although they are killing and playing - they are just acting naturally. (and I agree that children should not be shielded from nature) |

I agree - it's not overly pleasant but it IS a fact of life and the food chain is the food chain after all! What I find a little odd is (for instance) and friend of mine who keep a tally on her kitchen whiteboard of the various kinds of 'kills' her cats acheive (i.e., what animal and how many) |

This behaviour isn't something I've seen often as mine have always been indoor cats; however they have occasionally caught sparrows in the back garden when I wasn''t holding the lead; wasn't especially distressing to watch. It's their nature. But would definitely NOT keep a scorecard!! Something that fascinated me some years back was when a small hawk (think it was a peregrine) caught a sparrow in the back garden and proceeded to pluck it carefully before eating...watched from my window. |
