He was done on Tuesday, I know it takes about 6 weeks for the hormones to settle, but not sure when he will stop being smelly! My other boys were done when quite young...

Re: How soon after spaying...

I'm guessing when I suggest this, but isn't it the hormones that are responsible for the testosterone to be present and therefore make the tom smell? If I'm right with that, then he might not stop smelling for a few weeks yet hun..

I didn't know the answer so went to my trusty Google...must have searched a dozen sites and while they all emphasize odor reduction after neutering, none say how soon,,, sorry, tried!!

I think you will be looking a 6 weeks Moli, perhaps a little earlier, but usually at least a month.
Dawn.

Re: How soon after spaying...

He doesn't seem to spray anymore, and used a litter tray lastnight, don't think he has had one before...Its ponging this morning, but its easily sorted...
He still wants out at night, although if I ignore him, will settle down and go to sleep....Am I being horrible keeping him in?I just don't want him to get into anymore fights, he has enough battle scars!

Re: How soon after spaying...

Moli - Chancer will settle, both in terms of pong and in terms of restlessness. Ferdy was exactly the same. He stopped ponging within about 10 days/2 weeks, but I guess each cat is different . . . he was a very smelly cat though

He also settled quite quickly into an almost housecat routine. Probably within the month he had lost all urge to wander or even go outside very much, prefering a sunny indoor spot or underneath a radiator.

Hope that helps!

Re: How soon after spaying...

Moli - I think there is a chance he'll realise which side his bread is buttered and think it's better to stay in the warm on Scottish winter nights than go out. Maybe not though - he may always be a roamer.
Like has been said on other threads, it will take a while for his hormone level to drop, so he's still thinking he should be out scrapping, swearing and sh@gging.
Think you're doing the right thing to keep him in whilst he adjusts.
