is there a breed that gets on best with dogs?

Hi again -

I'm getting into this now so excuse all the new posts!

We've always had cats, but they've always been family cats and I've never really taken as much of an interest in their care as I have done with the dogs, who are my full responsibility.

Obviously I care for them, feed them, deflea them, worm them, spend time with them, etc etc. but I don't read up on them as much as I do the dogs!

So what I want to know is is there a breed that gets on best with dogs if brought up with them from kits?

I will have to leave my beloved cats home here when I move out (not imminent!), partly because they hate my dogs and partly because they're actually my mum's!

I would like to get a cat when I go but not sure what breed of cat would be best to bring up with dogs. We've had a rescue siamese cross before who was a lovely, lovely cat and loved fuss. I'm pretty sure she'd have not been phased by the dogs but as we didn't have the dogs then, I don't know.

Any ideas?

Our two at the moment are skitty little devils who are scared of their own shadows!

I have 5 cats...A Siamese, an oriential, 2 exotics and a moggy, and out of them all, I would say the siamese and oriential loves my dogs, they have slept with them since they were kittens...On saying that, I would think any cat should get on with dogs if they are introduced when the cat is a young kitten...

Thanks moli That's what I wanted to hear!

Unfortunately I was only about 9 when we got our little gems and didn't know about all the socialisation aspect of things. Otherwise, they'd have been introduced to dogs right from the word go!

I've never had dogs, but have always heard that if they are intruduced when kittens they will not only tolerate the dog but like it and get along famously. Would think that would apply especially to the Oriental breeds, as they know they are royalty..

We have allways had dogs..and allways had cats-and all have got on famouslly!
Clementine..ragdoll come coventry mog () has allways been an avid lover of dogs, from when we indirectlly "rescued" her and her bro's she was in love with our JRT bitch-would suckle from her, mimiced everything she did-to the extent of playing like a dog and squatting on the bloody lawn!
She was with old Polly right to her last moments-and sat cleaning her whilst she departed-a very moving relationship. She is also on good terms with our other two dogs..despite the fact one tends to find great fun in sucking her fur she still loves them..
Elsa used to love the dogs too..but thats a complicated tale of woe and despair on the whole!
I would say any cat, moggy or pedigree would get on with dogs-aslong as brought up well from an early age-i've heard the more laid back breeds; British Shorthair,Ragdoll, Maine coon etc also get on with dogs famouslly-but as i said, its nurture not nature, IMO.

awwww
We had our cats before the dogs too and after a year of living with Takara they still hate her!
Takara loves them to bits and just wants to play or cuddle up but the cats hate her!
