Thank you both but nothing was planned, I plant if they grow - great; if not I move them twice (now once as I am restricted by space and I now buy what I know will grow
) and then leave them alone. Seems to work, a bit dubious over the sundance this year I cut him right back as he was floundering a little (I thought) but he has sprung back into action. I am waiting for the holly to throw loads of berries like year before last I have planted two more hollies under the large (now red) tree at the back and they seem to like it I can actually walk under the tree canopy now. Seems like yesterday he was a twig.
