That's amazing isn't it Mags? I don't think we have any type of weather to compare to that. I remember our friends in Maine (1000 miles from nowhere - that's how Gary signs off his letters) had terrible winter weather a couple of years back. Terrible is ice storms - 12' of snow is normal!

Re: Brrrrrrr ..... no thanks!

As I write, it's 65F, the tulips are beginning to pop up, also the dafodils, and the anemone blandas are showing buds! My friend Carolyn who moved to Oklahoma City this Fall is right in the midst of it; talked to her yesterday: it was 23F with a wind chill of 9F!!! She hasn't lost power, but is iced in; the gated development where she lives hadn't been able to clear the roads yet! The ice/snow part of the storm is headed northeast; supposedly the precipitation will stay on the other side of the Blue Ridge mountains, thank God! But the Arctic air is headed our way: tomorrow will start out in the low 50's and drop throughout the day; should be 24F by dawn Wednesday with high winds. Ugh!! Will stay very cold for the next 4-5 days they say...I knew we'd pay for the unseasonably mild spell! But fortunate that the ice will miss us; snow is nasty, but ice is simply horrible...brings down trees and power lines, and you can't plow ice!! Will probably whinge for a few days about how bitterly cold it is!!

Re: Brrrrrrr ..... no thanks!

Thanks, Fran, believe me, I'm relieved too!!! It's the power loss that's so scary; that means the heat is off, and no way to cook! I have enough food in the pantry, freezer, etc. to last for ages if snowbound, but not if the power's gone!!

Re: Brrrrrrr ..... no thanks!

I checked on the map to see where you were Eileen in relation to that, far enough away for it to miss you thank goodness........... I hope

If we had that sort of weather here in this country I'm afraid everything would practically come to a standstill ........... we can't even cope with a few inches of snow!!
