The Falklands

Anyone any memories of the Falklands, its 25 years this year. A lad I was going out with then was there and thankfully came back. Pleased to say.
I remember them sailing away then sailing back.

Hard to believe 25 years have passed isn't it!! I was 8 then, and I can still remember watching the reports on the tv, and seeing the Sir Galahad in flames after it was torpedoed!! To all those young men who didn't come home.......RIP!

My OH met Simon Weston and spent several hours talking to him. says he is a really nice young man, with no bitterness. Although he would not have chosen the pain and the disfigurement, he feels he is now more than 'a squaddie from the valleys' (no offence meant; I'm paraphrasing what he himself said). He is in charge of a very good charity helping kids stay on the rails and he has a happy family life.

25 years! yes, I remember it well. Brian Hanrahan, counting them all out and counting them all in, and the Defence Dept spokesman (maybe called MacDonald? or maybe my memory isn't that good) giving a daily TV bulletin. One of my OH's colleagues lost his (only) 18 year old son there.

Hard to believe it was 25 years ago. I remember it well and remember seeing the documentaries on Simon Weston too. Quite an incredible guy he seems.
