Friends stuck on M5 overnight

Our friends set off from the Midlands at 3.30pm YESTERDAY heading to the Gower........ They were still in Bristol at 9am today They've been stuck.

Someone else we know set off at 4am on their holiday, they came home at 7.30 as they could not get through to the other side of Worcester & after exausting all their options of different routes, they came home.

Some other friends are en-route to catch a ferry at 11am & are still on the M42

looks like complete mayhem!

I'm just watching the news and some-one they were talking about was stuck for 15 hours in their car on the motorway

isn't this crazy how easy our country comes to a standstill

I hope you manage to make your journey ok tomorrow Smudgley.

A lot of trains have been cancelled from Bristol due to the tracks being flooded, it's unfortunate but better safe than sorry...

Has Bristol been flooded? Luckily my sister is up here just now and off to China rather than trying to get back down to Bristol.

Re: Friends stuck on M5 overnight

My son was very lucky to get home just before the worst of it yesterday (see today's daily thread).
Not nice at all. Imagine being in a car with the family going on holiday... or as a lone woman .... or anything really.
The only saving grace is that, being midsummer not midwinter, the night was mercifully short for those trapped.

Re: Friends stuck on M5 overnight

The holiday we are going on is a holiday rally with the club we're in. People take turns to run the rallies & whoever is running the rally has to arrive before the rally opens & put markers out for the pitches & set up an area to book everyone in & make tea / coffee for your arrival. The people running this rally were planning to arrive Fri evening - before all the other 50 vans start arriving from today.

The people I mentioned earlier who were stuck all night are the people actally running this rally.
