Vaccination age?

i have been looking around to find out how old kittens have to be for their first vaccinations and some say 9 weeks is the minimum while others say 8-9 weeks is fine.

i was really hoping to get the boys first vaccs sorted this week(on tuesday actually) but Rhino will only be 8 1/2 weeks old, and Hernandez will be about 10 1/2 weeks old. should i wait until Rhino is 9 weeks or older before bringing them both up or do you think a few days shouldnt make a difference?

Re: Vaccination age?

Depends which vaccinations they are having
Are they having leukemia? Are they having Chlamydia?
The vaccine for Chlamydia is a lot for their little bodies to cope with. that's why we vaccinate from 9 weeks.

i dont actually know its just the usual full course of vaccinations so anyone have any idea which they give first? would four days really make a noticable difference? or is it more to do with their size/weight? because these pair really are quite tiny bless them.

Re: Vaccination age?

It depends which vaccine your vets use. My vets won't vaccinate until the kittens are 9 weeks old, some vets will vaccinate at 8 weeks old. You need to ask your vet what their regime is...

Re: Vaccination age?

hmm shall give the vets a quick ring on monday then and see if they would be happy vaccinating him at that age. if they would prefer to wait until he is 9 weeks old is Hernandez ok to wait a little longer too? he would be 11 weeks old then so wasnt sure.

Re: Vaccination age?

We vaccinate using 'PureVax RCPFeLV' or 'PureVax RCP', and with both of these we vaccinate from 8 weeks of age

Give your vet a ring anyway just to be on the safe side it may be different with different vaccine manufacturers.

Re: Vaccination age?

My kittens were vaccinated with Purevax RCP last week and my vet wouldn't vaccinate until they were nine weeks old. Think a lot of it depends upon the vet and what they prefer to do...
