Re: Wednesday Daily Thread

He has been stablilised... seems silly but my worry is my mum up in London on her own without anyone to support her. She is diabetic and has no medication on her... she wont tell anyone there. Rang the hospital and they said they not allowed to prescribe her medicine!!!

How stupid is that????? If she collapses they will give her meds then. So stupid...

Re: Wednesday Daily Thread

Wishing you all the best Donna .....
.......... and if I were you I would try again to get someone to do a glucose test and give your Mum her meds. If no luck - ask to speak to a supervisor, if no result ask to speak to someone higher and so on. If you hit a brick wall (surely you'll find someone with some sense at some stage?) just go to the press/local TV/radio.
Ridiculous.

Donna, so sorry to hear about your Dad ..........sending healing vibes to him....

Your Mum sounds exactly like my mum was, burdening everything herself and not telling anyone. Just wondered if it would help to ring her doctor, explain the situation, then maybe he could phone the hospital to authorise some help with meds for your mum if needed...

Wishing you and your family all the best, Donna ((((hugs)))) x

Re: Wednesday Daily Thread

Yes Mags - it is so lovely to have our proper summer back with us - though it is sad to see that the evenings are getting darker quite quickly - such a shame we've missed out on those beautiful balmy light nights
We went out for supper last night. (Tuesday is steak night at our nearest local ). The place was mobbed. It's the first time we've ventured there since the smoking ban. OH asked the landlady how busines was going and she said they are run off their feet! So much for the ban killing pubs. The smokers were outside under a giant parasol, with patio heaters and looked quite comfortable.
Had a call from my son last night. He was calling to say his water is just back on - he was looking forward to the longest shower in history, and getting some washing done. That's seven and a half days without mains water - difficult to appreciate just how inconvenient it must be. And we should all be more thoughtful for those billions of people in the world without water, or where women just spend all their waking hours fetching and carrying water.

Hope everyone has a lovely day and hope Donna has some success at getting medication for her mum. Actually, when her Dad is fit and well again Donna should speak to her Mum and tell her how important it is for her to stiffen her spine and just ask for what she needs - don't be a shrinking violet, doesn't help anyone. It was one of the most difficult things with my mum. When she needed help with my dad she'd ask the relevant agency .... once. If the request got lost, or wasn't filled properly, she'd go back in her shell and leave it. Or eventually ask me to follow it up. It's no good - that doesn't help 'the patient' or the carer. You don't have to be objectionable - just assertive. Make sure you get what you need.
Oh dear - on my soapbox again - sorry! - I'll get off now.

Have a good day all
