M40 chaos

We've been away for the weekend on a rally near Banbury. As we go with lots of people in the club, we have a good communication network which is excellent when info needs to be communicated.
A couple left the rally & phoned us shortly after to say the M40 was congested but they didn't know why. We got another call shortly after from another couple to say that they had just driven past a motorbike rider who was lying face down in the road, we presumed he had been in a collision. However it turns out there has been a shooting & this guy was shot dead. It had just happened as these people passed. The M40 is complete chaos. It happened near J13 - the exit is about 100 yards from where I work It is now closed from J10 all the way to J14 - which is miles.
this weekend was the Bulldog bash & I think the news said he had been there.

It's awful. I feel sorry for the people who saw the guy. I can only presume the police were on the scene at this point.

Re: M40 chaos

Just watched it on the news. Crazy. There will be a huge backlash against the police if they keep closing the motorways, wasn't the M25 (the bit near/on the way to Gatwick) closed most of Friday after an accident?

Re: M40 chaos

DM I see what you mean but in the case of the M40 it was a crime scene and as such had to be processed correctly and although I was one of the people affected by it, I actually appreciate why the police acted as they did. It's kind of a one off - at least one would hope so!

By shutting the M40 people diverted would actually have gotten home more quickly than if they had left some carriageways open as rubberneckers would probably have clogged it up for miles trying to get a look at what was happening

I hope they get the nasty piece of work who shot the poor guy
