tears in reception

Lucy (my youngest, now in Yr 5) went back to school today & told me about all the tiny reception children.
She said one lad called Liam was upset at playtime & he just kept patting the teachers leg & crying, asking where his mom was. Lucy & her friend were talking to him & asked him if he had any friends, to which he sniffled "yes, mommy & daddy" so they asked him if he had any other friends & he replied "yes, nanny & grandad" the teacher asked them if they could walk him around the playground, so they did & they found him a little friend called William.
Oh yes & when the girls told him it won't be long until mom or dad comes to collect you he relied (still sniffling) " my dad works in Bristol, so I have to go to after school club"

Bless 'im & good on Lucy & Olivia for trying to help him settle into school.

I didn't know weather to laugh or cry when she told me.

Aww...how sad, the poor little lad... The first day can be so frightening for some of the small ones.

Another couple of sweet natured and helpful girls!!

Re: tears in reception

This illustrates the need for children to socialise I think so that they have a wide circle of friendships. Imediate family are not their friends and this is confusing and isolating for small children. Good on your daughter for having a purpose today to and understanding how upset others are also

Re: tears in reception

Do you know that is the way things are going now too. Extended schools are coming in so that children are in breakfast clubs and after school clubs leaving other people to do what mum and dad would do. by the time the children get home there is only time left for tea and bed! It's a sad sorry way that the world is heading. People have to work in order to have the essentials and the governement puts no emphasis on the importance of bringing up the next generation of people.....Don't get me started on that one!!!!! ha

Yes babycakes, but unfortunately most parents both have to work long hours to make ends meet nowadays.

So true and it is such a shame when and if ed and I decide to have kids we will both have to keep our full tme jobs and ed will have to take on more hours if we want to keep this house.I work nights so its not to bad because i would be here in the day,a little tired and groggy but i would be here.

That's what I mean the governement have them over a barrel. They don't make it beneficial to stay at home. The parents have no choice but to go to work. Other countries recognise the importance of this and pay accordingly.
