Plant pics (esp for Kazz)

Karen so very kindly brought me some plants a few months back, so I thought I would take some pics and let her see how they are getting on under my tender care, lol!

Firstly we have the tall purple thingie (no idea what it's called but it's very pretty)

Then we have the flowerbed it's in. Notice my sedum is turning red Karen!!

Next is the pinks and the Jacobs ladder type plant. I love this as the butterflies absolutely flock to it!

And lastly the whole bed. Looking a bit empty now as my dahlias have all died off, must get some shrubs to fill in the gaps

Re: Plant pics (esp for Kazz)

Very nice Alex you have a good basis for a perrenial garden there.
The tall purple thingy needs to be cut down to the ground when the flowers die off it will come back next year. Cut right down to the ground with secatures/shears. You should find it comes back and be fantastic next year mine are about 6ft tall now. You can maybe divide him in half in the Spring next year then carry on from there dividing every other year.

Sedum can be divided in Spring just dig him up and see if you could cut him in half or thirds. Then you will have two or three plants from one plant. And by Autumn you won't notice the difference.
All those will come back next year.

Glad they did okay.

Looking good, Alex! You've done a great job there! I love the vivid blue flowers, very striking! How big is the pond? That's going to be fun to do also.......

Re: Plant pics (esp for Kazz)

Thanks for that advice Karen! I really love the sedum, dont know why, but I just think the leaves are great, so it will be fab to have more of them next year!
Not sure how big the pond is Eileen, I thinks it's about 4/5 foot, Its sitting up the top of the garden at the moment waiting for Robert to dig in. He's decided to put it down the bottom of the garden now so we can enjoy it better. Does anyone have any ideas about planting for a pond? He doesn't want to have to get a filter if possible as he would prefer natural plants that do the filtering!
