Steam Cleaners

Does anyone have one or have any advice/recommendations? I have either tile or laminate floors and am wondering whether a steam cleaner will make life easier for my knees!!

Re: Steam Cleaners

Ooh how bizarre you should ask! My brother in law came here today & he always has little things to give us, today he brought a hamster cage & 2 little steam cleaners. they are hand held ones, but I decided to have a go at cleaning inside the cat pens with them as I thought it may get them clean without making everywhere wet! It's great. I got in all the little gaps & managed to get out all crumbs & yukky stuff. Then John followed me round putting sealant in the gaps. (it's kind of where the plastic inside meets the wooden edges)

So to answer your question, I don't know about the floors, but certainly have made my pens lovely & clean inside. I also had a little go with it along some of the gaps in the slabs (again where stuff gets in) & it got all the bits out (which even the pressure washer struggles to do)

Steam will be good for you to clean/de-bug the pens without chemicals Smudgley

Re: Steam Cleaners

Thankyou Smudgely, you actually made me think of a use for a steamer other than floors, I think I could also use it to clean the parrots cages as they get fairly sticky and messy

Re: Steam Cleaners

I don't have a steam cleaner, but, like Het would be interested in hearing whether those who have find it a useful thing as it's something I'm considering buying. Smudgely, sounds like it's passed round 1 in your home

Re: Steam Cleaners

I ahve a steam cleaner and use it on the carpets, with good results, however never though of using it on the laminate, although I am sure it will work well.

Re: Steam Cleaners

Do you not think extreme heat/damp such as steam cleaning will cause the laminate to de-laminate?? It might not, but as I have neither it might be worth checking with whoever you bought your flooring from?

Re: Steam Cleaners

Well Het funny you should mention parrot cages.........but the hamster cage that Steve bought us today was a 2nd hand one & it was clean but had some stains in the corners, soon removed them with the little steamer!

Re: Steam Cleaners

I have a steam cleaner and have found it disappointing on carpets to be honest. It is however great for doing the (fully) tiled walls in the bathroom. I also use it for pillows and mattresses to attack dust mites. It's also really good for my top oven which isn't self-clean.

Re: Steam Cleaners

Thanks for all the replies
I have decided to give this on a go as it sounds like the most straightforward one for the floors

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HOME-HT824-L...2357538&sr=8-4

my laminates are all bathroom grade so i think it should be ok on those, will check with the joiner that laid them, although its mostly the tiled kitchen and utility room floor that i need it for........will let you know how it goes

Smudgley...i will definitely be investing in a hand held one for the cages, I have seen them in Asda so will maybe give one of those a go
