Dilemma

I visited a family today who have a six month kitten who has come into season. I have never seen a cat so desperate...she was backing up to me, rolling over, chirruping and purring all over the house. I spoke to the dad of the family who said she is not allowed out, however they had a window open. I explained the dangers and even told them if she mated at this age she would most likely die as she is so small, bit of a scare tactic.

Dad and mum are on benefits, dad is very arthritic and I know they can't afford to get her spayed so I phoned CPL and they will provide a voucher for £25 off but the vet wants a further £25 and I know they can't afford that.

Does the PDSA still do it for nothing? What should I do? I can't pay for it

Re: Dilemma

BC - I'm afraid I don't know about PDSA - but you must not even think about funding the other half - it really isn't up to you - just think everyone in the area who can't afford to have their cat neutered would be winging their way to your door. There has got to be another way. Sorry not to be more helpful on the practical front.

Re: Dilemma

BC, have a phone around a few more vets. A lot will do it for much less than that!

Re: Dilemma

Exactly that, they won't !!! the priorities to look after their son is low so the cat won't even come into consideration.

Re: Dilemma

Some vets will offer a discount rate for people on the voucher scheme, so a lot of our local vets will do it for the price of the CP voucher (hey which is £26, not £25 ) plus £6 from the cat owner as they help us to try & encourage people who need it to get their cats done.

If you try calling the CP neutering contact again and explaining that she is struggling to find the extra money, they should let you know if there are cheaper vets.

CP can't recommend you a vet, but they can give you facts on prices.

The other thing to enquire about is that CP often run free neutering schemes over a period of time. We are running a free one in May this year.

Re: Dilemma

All very good suggestions; I hope you can help them find a solution and keep after them till they do get her spayed, poor little mite! What a graphic description: I can just see her now rolling and calling.......
