Anyone know anything about Sphynx cats?

Just interested if anyone has any information on them, health issues, temperaments, personalities, problems, breeders even?

They are bald Seriously I believe you have to be very careful with their skin. They suffer with cold and heat and need their skin clean and I believe moisturised. I think their temperament is much like other cats but they really need to be an indoor cat. There must be loads of info on the web.

I've heard they are incredibly affectionate cats. Don't know much else, but yes - I'd image they would suffer from temperature extremes. They're every so soft too - like suede

Why, are you thinking of getting one?

I have looked up a lot online but nothing like advice someone who has owned one! And yes it would certainly be an indoor cat only.

Re: Anyone know anything about Sphynx cats?

I was speaking to a lady at a show who had 2 of them. They were lovely to touch - but she said that they do get greasy - especially on their feet, as they have no hair as such to absorb the grease. So, they need a lot of cleaning and bathing.

I can't remember the lady's name though - sorry

There is a breeder that advertises in the cat mags I get - they are called Alnakeed. I'm sure they will have a website.

I know it's an American site, but they do have some great pictures of different sphynx cats

I have no wish to offend anyone, but they are not for me! I suppose they might be really good if someone is allergic to cat fur. I have to have a furry cat!!!

Re: Anyone know anything about Sphynx cats?

I agree they are not for everyone but how dull life would be if we all liked the same, I think they are stunning cats and i'm planning on going to some cat shows this years to hopefully meet a few and their owners.

Charlie thanx for your help, distance is not a problem for the right cat, i'll have a look and keep it in my bookmarks for now. Probably not 'til next year but no harm in looking in advance. It's keeping me busy at least for now.

Cheers. x

Thanks Yola, just something so captivating about their wee faces and i've always found them fascinating. I have a thing for Chinese Crested (dogs) too so must be something about the lack of hair that I find appealing.
