What a fascinating article, Mags, thanks for posting it! I'm always interested in words and variations like that. But don't your papers refer to the Queen Mum? |

What an interesting article Mags, and interesting comments from others too. I called my mum Mummy or Mum and dad Daddy or Dad, but when my OH and I started to "get serious" his mother and father said to me that I could call them mum and dad. I didn't want to do that at all and so I started off calling them Ma and Pa and it stuck!!! |

Ma and Pa is sort of a rural expression here in the States; rarely heard in the urban areas. I called my father Daddy when small and Dad later. What do you call your parents mother? Its usually Grandma here ..... |

All 4 of my grandparents had passed on by the time I was born Eileen, so I never had the opportunity to call them anything at all! My OH's grandmother was called "Bunty" by everyone - don't know why! |

Mags - will read that this evening when I'm not toddler-watching! My Mum gets called Babcia; Polish for Grandma. OH's Mum insistes on being called 'Nan/Nanny' which I really don't like and would prefer Granny or Grandma or even Gran. But as it's her that is being called it it's her shout! |

"Nana" seems to be preferred by the crossword puzzle preparers here; it pops up all the time! I have never heard it used by anyone and have thought of it as a British thing........ |
