Black cats and claws

Reading Elaine's post when she mentioned that Bernie has black claws got me to wondering: the only black cat I've been familiar with was Onyx, and she had white (well, sort of yellowish white but you could clearly see the vein) claws. Black cat people, what color are your cats claws?

Re: Black cats and claws

As Cassie's legs are white, I suppose it makes sense that her claws are white too.

The last pics that Az put up of Cheetah shows clearly that she has black claws in the 4th pic...

You're very observant, Mags, I missed that and had to go back and look again. Wonder if it comes from the leopard cat ancestry in Bengals; will have to do a Google after dinner. All of mine, mogs and pedigrees have had white claws.....

Re: Black cats and claws

I have 3 black cats atm and have had 5 altogether and none have/have ever had black claws! They are just sort of translucent, all of my cat's claws are the same colour.

Re: Black cats and claws

Thanks, Random, translucent is the word I was reaching for! I was really surprised to hear that Bernie has black claws, that would make clipping almost impossible,.I'd be terrified to hit the vein and have blood all over !

Merlin's claws are translucent and Smudge's were too. She was a B&W cat with white stockings. The veins could be seen fairly easily.

Re: Black cats and claws

He does honestly have black claws, if he wasnt such a wriggler I'd take a piccie to show you all. If he had translucent claws then i wouldn't be paying for a vet to clip his claws. I'd damned well do them myself.
But he is a very nice vet and i may be tempted to develope munchausen by proxy so that i can see him a little more often
