Science DailyI came across this really interesting site whilst on the hunt for info on the Chilean volcano but of course could not resist looking for anything related to cats! Here's the link. I think I may have to investigate this site further! Hope you find it interesting too. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0129125500.htm

Thanks for that link Mags - how terrible for those poor people. Hope the Welsh colony in Patagonia is safe - what did your paper say PP? Hear the Junta in Burma has effectively stifled any relief work. How can a government get so powerful that it cares little for the welfare of its own people? |

It's awful there Angie the people have to wear face masks coz of the ash and livestock are dying. The area, known as Y Wladfa, the colony, is isolated from the rest of Argentina by the amount of ash (3 cms) covering the airport and other vital routes. The Welsh commuinty settled there on the borders of Chile and Argentina in the late 19th century, they speak Welsh and have a strong identity. There is a commnet from one of the teachers at Yr Ysgol Andes ( the welsh school of the Andes) that says it looks like its covered in snow, due to the whiteness of the ash, and because of the pumice dust the danger is to the lungs and the possible later damage it will do to them. I'll try and get a link for you Nette x |

Thanks PP! I read elsewhere that as the rainfall is quite low, it will take ages for the ash to wash away naturally. I keep thinking about the poor animals. |
