New (to me) plant

The hardware store down the block from my Fresh Fields market has a garden section, and I saw an absolutely stunning "must have" plant there today. It's called ruellia, common name wild petunia, because of the resemblance of the flower; not related to petunias at all. It's about 2-3 feet tall with vivid blue flowers, perennial (just barely in my area), loves full sun and propagates easily from seed. I'll be on the lookout for a seed source...the plants there are in huge 5 gallon pots so way to heavy for me to get home, but will definitely have some next year!

Re: New (to me) plant

If I find a seed source, I'll probably have some to share next year...always too much in a packet!
I wish I'd thought of that earlier: I had a lot of left over zinnia and mexican sunflower (titonia) seed that I could have shared....

Oh, thats nice! Maybe you could post any surplus you don't need; I'm going to next year. And you're on the list for the lunaria seed when it ripens later this year....

Re: New (to me) plant

That is such a pretty flower Eileen - I will try to see if it's available in GB, if not please include me in your seed distribution list! I agree, seed packets always have too many (some packets I've seen with as many as 1000 seeds) and even if you factor in low germination rates you always end up with wasted seed.
