Daily thread ~ Saturday

Morning all...

Things are calmer here now after heavy storms and strong winds in the South West throughout the night. There has been flooding in some areas but fortunately we weren't affected.

Need to pop to the shops now the storms have abated, also I'll be icing the Christmas cakes later. Nothing much planned for the weekend other than the usual.

Have a good weekend everyone..... stay dry, stay warm

Phew - it was a wild night! Tons of rain. I haven't been out so can't say how the river is.
Think the o'night wind affected the cats, as they woke with Mad Cat Disease and did many loud and frantic laps of the bedroom. Andy and I had to hide under the duvet a couple of times as they charged about!
Warmer of course - but more cold forecast

On a very bright note (it is to me anyway), although we are a week away from the shortest day, any further 'shortening' takes place in the morning. From tonight the evenings will get lighter, although only by odd minutes of course. But every little helps.

Re: Daily thread ~ Saturday

Mother in Law has deteriorated and is hours from being in a coma. Hubby is by her bedside and being an only child he is finding it very hard. The only support he has is me and I have to take care of the girls. Got a sitter after lunch so I can go and sit with her to give hubby a break.

The thought of planning a funeral at Christmas just doesn't bare thinking about

Sorry peeps, I have no positive cheery news today.

Matron - I'm sorry I hadn't heard about your MIL. It will be tough for your OH.
Try not to do too much 'what-iff-ing'. It saps your mental strength; best to keep things together and do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.
Take care - we'll be thinking about you. If you don't want to Catsey - that's fine but if you do, you may find it a nice bit of 'normality'. I know I found it useful during tough times.

Re: Daily thread ~ Saturday

So sorry to read your news Matron - I will be thinking about you and your family. It is hard being an only child dealing with it all - it's happened to me twice. My OH was my rock and my only comfort. Sometimes just a hug says everything.

Nasty news about flash floods in the SW - glad to hear that you're OK Mags and DM. Hope our Welsh friends are also OK.

Horrid grey day, windy and wet - don't think it's ever going to get light properly today. Don't even feel like braving it to go and feed the birds - may just let the rain stop a bit first. They are brave, aren't they, those small wild birds? Glad to hear that the evenings are going to get lighter day by day - nearly at the solstice.

I can hear that Kazz is definitely getting in the seasonal spirit - oh yes she is! I would love to go to a pantomime this year and wonder if I can find anyone to go with. OH would like to pretend he's the villain, I bet. Something I really miss from going out to work - we nearly always put on a play/panto before "breaking up" for Christmas - they were always hilarious and it amazed me that people who you would least believe to be able to throw themselves into all the silliness did the best!

I hope everyone has a good weekend. Could we have a picture of your Christmas cake when you're finished decorating it please Mags?

Matron, so sorry to hear the news; terrible for your OH as an only child. Like Angie, I went thru it twice; so hard. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Glad everyone survived the terrible storms, even if you did have Mad cats!
I'd like to see the cakes also, Mags!

Seems petty to be complaining after such sad news, but I had a mild panic yesterday when my bi-weekly grocery delivery was cancelled for the second day, as the store's computer was still down and they couldn't retrieve the order. I was low on everything, and needed the heavy items delivered; can't cope with carrying them on the bus anymore. But by a stroke of luck my friend called to say he was coming over to drop off presents, so he took me to the store and carried in all the heavy things for me! Bless him, my white knight! So, larders well stocked again! Especially Leia's food.

Sunny but bitterly cold again, -4! Brrr! But like DM, I'm a sunset time watcher, and we have passed the nadir...all getting better now till June!

Stay warm and dry, enjoy the weekend!

Re: Daily thread ~ Saturday

So sorry to hear about recent events, Matron. Sending you lots of love, vibes, and strength. I hope you will take care.

Very chilly and windy over here..the snow was supposed to arrive by 7am but now they are saying 7pm. Tomorrow even colder and snow all day. So I guess that means I'm supposed to put up my Christmas decorations now, huh?

Last night, OH got a small Xmas Bonus gift card to Walmart and we bought a few things for the animals but mostly spent it on "presents" for the family we will be seeing on Christmas day at my parents house.
They were told by my mother that we could barely afford the gas to drive the four hours there and back and that we could not afford presents and everyone was in agreement this was fine as my cousin and his new wife were in the same predicament as they just had a baby.
We ended up getting small things to hand out...like candies, bath wash, bracelets and such. It is very obvious these things did not cost a lot of money and are just trinkets but it will make me feel a little more comfortable showing up with something in my hands.
I thought that was really kind of OH to spend his bonus on that for my benefit.
Anyway, I digress..sorry!
Will probably spend most of the day hiding from the weather, watching movies in sweats, and eating warm things, LOL...hope everyone has a good rest of the day!
