Hi Lorna, Castration is a fairly simple procedure and the cat is usually only under anaesthetic for approx 10 minutes. The area is usually plucked rather than shaved and the wounds are left open to heal rather than any stitches put in. In most cases you wouldn't even realise the cat has had a general anaesthetic as they bounce back really quickly, especially at a young age, although your vet may recommend restricting food intake for the evening to avoid any problems with nausea caused by the drugs used. Hi, for a male it is a quick op and they barely seem to notice. Tolly groomed himself with a bit of a puzzled expression as if to say 'wasn't there something there?'. It's a great decision to have him done - no unwanted kittens from your lovely boy! |
