Where you grew up, where you live now

Thought it might be interesting to see how many of us are still at or near where we grew up, and how many are far away now. This came up in a chat with Moli yesterday, who as most all know lives in Scotland. I'm still right here in Washington, about 6 blocks from where I grew up.

Re: Where you grew up, where you live now

Good idea for a thread DM,
I live in Welshpool which is the town I was born in, although I actually grew up in a village about 4 miles away, Castle Caereinion. I lived there until I was 18. OH and I moved back here last year from London, I spent 4 years there at university, then ended up working in London for two years after I qualified.
So glad to be back home now, although I do miss the shops, the nearest shopping centre is a half hour train ride away now!

Re: Where you grew up, where you live now

Well, I've done a fair bit of travelling lol. I was born and lived in Glasgow until I was 10, then moved 20 miles outside of Glasgow to the new town of Cumbernauld. Lived there until I was 19, then moved 150 miles away to Aberdeen. Spent 10 years there, then moved nearly 500 miles away to Telford where we've spent the last 5 years, and I don't see us moving again, unless when the girls leave home we move back to Scotland

Re: Where you grew up, where you live now

I was born in Chase Terrace, Staffordshire(West Midlands) lived there until I was 10years old. Then moved about 20 miles to Kingswinford, (West Midlands) lived there until I was 18. Then started working for Guide Dogs & had to "live-in" so went to live 40 miles away in Leamington Spa. (Warwickshire). When I was 20 I married John & we bought a house in Bromsgrove (Worcestershire) which is half way between Kingswinford & Leamington Spa (our work places) lived there for 5 years - then moved to a village called Wall Heath - just outside of Kingswinford. Lived in the village for about 9 years now. It's a long way for me to travel to work (43 miles) but I don't mind as we love it here.

My mom and Dad live in the village & the in-laws live a mile away in Kingswinford!

Re: Where you grew up, where you live now

My mother was born in Eastbourne, East Sussex and moved to Bognor Regis when she was 1 year old. When she married my Dad after WW2, they moved back to live in Bognor, where I was born and grew up. I married a man who had moved to Bognor with his family from London when he was 12 and we lived there until 13 years ago when we moved to a village near Emsworth, which is about 10 miles away from Bognor. I have to say I have no desire to return to Bognor as I consider it to be a mucky dump now! I am about 5 miles from Chichester which is where I went to college to do my A levels and where I worked for a long time. I am very fond of Chichester.
