Avian Vets

Why aren't there many of these? They seem to be very thin on the ground by comparison to the amount of birds which are kept in captivity.
Thank god for passionate, clued up people such as Nadia.
Olly, the cockateil that a client of mine bought from a pet shop, some of you may remember the bad start he had. Well any way he wasnt quite himself last Thursday, on Friday I took him to the vet who said he had a respritory infection and had a less than 50% chance of survival. Olly was still eating and preening and the vet said he wasnt in any pain and wasnt suffering but was on the side of PTS rather than treat. My experience is that vets always do this with birds.
I called Nadia and my client and myself arranged to meet her this evening at my clients home. She gave Olly a supplement to boost his imune but said that he is NOT a very sick bird, sick birds stop preening, chirping and eating.
He has perked up alot since Friday due to a good source of C-vits in the form of fresh peas, he wont eat fruit and some guardian angel (a vitamin supplement) which i had ordered for them a while back on Nadias advice.
More avian specialists are needed across the Uk, too many birds are PTS because the vets dont know.

They are very far and few between...We are lucky have a brilliant Avian vet on our doorstep....

Never thought about that as haven't had birds for over 35 years. It must be a nightmare for people.

I mean people have been keeping birds for years.

Yes but even New Deer is a long and stressful journey for a bird from Aberdeen. There is one in Aberdeen who advertises herself as an Avian vet but she actually said to both Nadia and myself that she wasnt . Thats quite worrying also that she can advertise herself as such with out actually being what she claims to be.

Yes I expect it is. Maybe local authorities should also look into these things before allowing exotic pet shops to open in their area. I wish there was some blanket ban on shops selling live stock at all but that's a whole different arguement.
The fraud Avian vet in Aberdeen also claims to be a reptile expert but after her addmission of not being an avian vet, I dont trust anything she says/claims now, which is very sad really as she used to be very good with me and Winston.
