He got his feet x-rayed on Friday and I think the vets are quite relieved with the outcome. There is some rotation of the hoof, but not as bad as they thought and there is plenty of sole beneath the bone, which is good. The blacksmith is going to pop in and see the x-rays before he puts on any shoes, but at the moment he is planning to put cytek shoes on the front, a type of shoe which supports the pedal bone. Later he will decide on the best option for the back, luckily they are put on cold, so it will be less stressful for him ( all of us. ) but we will still do the front feet first and the hinds later. We also got some bloods taken as I am a wee bit concerned he may be pre-cushings, I also want to rule out any liver damage, as we don't know how poor the quality of grazing he was on, but there is the risk there was ragwort therefore liver damage. He is looking very scruffy at the moment as he is moulting, but will look fantastic when the sleek new coat is in. The vets were kept busy with us on Friday, Molly the rabbit was in to be speyed, Pippin had his x-rays etc, and they had a look at Violet the goat, who is very thin and arthritic, so she had some bloods taken too and was given some medication for her stiffness. I'm not looking forward to this months bill, I can tell you! |
